Death

General
Slain characters can return to the battlefield fairly quickly via reviving (except in Hardcore mode, where death is permanent). Three reviving options are available, each with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. However, Hellgate London's death system is not painful like some other games. There isn't any loss of experience and the time required to get back to actually playing the game is minimal to none depending on the option chosen.
Revival Choices
- Ressurect: After being slain, a character can respawn at its location of death. But this comes at a cost. Players are forced to turn over a specific amount of palladium with this option. However, the greatest advantage is that one can immediately return to life at exactly where one was slain. This circumvents a lengthy journey back to the battlefield.
- Respawn at Station: The second option is to leave your original instance and respawn in a station. This is usually used if one wishes to end the instance or if the corpse is near far too many dangerous demons that it would be nearly impossible to retrieve.
- Corpse run: The last option is to do a corpse run, characters spawn as ghosts and must run to their corpse before returning to their living, breathing selves. As a ghost, you are essentially an observer, unable to have any effect on the environment. But you are also immune any sort of damage. While in ghost form, the world appears only as shades of black and white. This revival technique should be familiar to many as it was employed in the Diablo series and more recently in World of Warcraft.
Hardcore
Hardcore is an option available to Elite players and was originally in Diablo. Unlike 'normal' characters, those in Hardcore cannot respawn/revive ever (ie. never ever, no matter what!). Their death is permanent and players will no longer have access to them once slain. It can be a very thrilling experience knowing that each battle may be your last.
